About this event

Primetime: A New Vision for the Second Half of Life
Presented by Dr. Margie Lachman

How can we continue to thrive as we grow older? What does research tell us about staying healthy, resilient, engaged, and fulfilled in the years beyond midlife?

Join renowned lifespan psychologist and Brandeis University professor Dr. Margie Lachman for an engaging presentation based on her new book, Primetime: A New Vision for Midlife. Drawing on more than three decades of groundbreaking research on adult development and aging, Dr. Lachman challenges many of the myths surrounding aging and demonstrates how our later years can be a time of continued growth, purpose, and opportunity.

This presentation has a special connection to Wellesley Neighbors. Dr. Lachman collaborated with Dr. Janet Giele, a longtime Wellesley Neighbors member and internationally recognized sociologist, on pioneering research examining the life course of several generations of women. Together, their work has helped shape our understanding of how our experiences across the lifespan influence health, well-being, and successful aging.

In this thought-provoking talk, you'll discover:

  • Why many common beliefs about aging simply aren't supported by research.
  • How our attitudes, daily habits, and sense of purpose influence healthy aging.
  • The strengths and opportunities that emerge in the second half of life.
  • Practical, evidence-based strategies for maintaining physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being.

Whether you're looking to stay active, keep your mind sharp, strengthen your relationships, or simply gain a fresh perspective on aging, you'll leave with inspiring insights and practical ideas you can apply in your own life.

Dr. Lachman is one of the nation's leading experts on adult development and aging and directs the Lifespan Development Lab at Brandeis University. Her work has transformed our understanding of how people adapt, grow, and flourish throughout adulthood.
